Agent 8 cannot remember much about her past, but she recalls one Octoling, someone she used to call friend. Having stopped the rogue AI Tartar, completed every test, recovered every Mem Cake and found a new life in Inkopolis, Agent 8 feels like she has no purpose left other than find this long lost friend and uncover her past. But what she uncovers might not exactly be pleasant...

It's been 4 years since Three saw Eight, and she's getting pretty depressed by that. The fact that the team just recovered from the "Fuzzy goo invasion", and being promoted to captain, isn't really helping much with the captain's personal problems. But when Eight seems to go missing, and there are reports of an invasion where she lives, Captain Three starts getting worried. Agent 8 has panic inducing nightmares from when he was forced to fight Agent 3 underground. For some unknown reason, Agent 4 is the only one who can calm the Octoling.
