Lana Davis has a good enough reason to be hesitant about the longevity of relationships - her own brother left their family without an explanation. One of the few people she thought would be around forever just didn't love or care enough. Everything had an expiration date.

The only exception to this hesitation: Jake Roberts. Jake and Lana had been inseparable since they were 11 and she never saw anything changing that. They spent every hour of every day together. Until suddenly Lana gets back from an extended trip to find that Jake has a girlfriend. And now Lana is suddenly pushed away until he essentially drops her.

After now dealing with two huge fallouts, Lana knew she just didn't have it in her heart to ever go through something like that again. Keeping people at arm's length was the answer.
But then a guy from math keeps appearing at her coffee shop. And he's pretty determined to get her to open up. No matter how much she tries to push him away, he just acts like he has all the time in the world.

But Lana cannot fathom why she should let someone else in. All friendships come to an end; it was even in the name.

Not everyone who walk together reaches the destination together. Sometimes, one is left behind. Sometimes, one has to break to complete the other. Silence is love's faithful companion. Love is nothing unless felt. It shows its presence silently, waiting patiently, lurking in the shadows of hearts. All this while, the silence as its faithful companion, holds its hand and bears every sigh, every torment, every skip of a heartbeat, every joy, and every glance with it. They complete each other and yet they don't, for love demands recognition. It requires confirmation and when the love has reached its peak, it pushes the silence down. Breaks it, steps over it, and shouts to the whole world the tale of its existence. And silence, it smiles watching the whole scene. But as it is said, silence in itself is the loudest cry. "I'll always love you too, Kayla," he said smiling at me and I placed my head on his shoulder. We sat in silence with our hearts at peace and filled with content. Can silence speak? Had someone asked me this question before I would never have been able to answer the question. But at this moment I knew the answer. Yes, silence can speak. It can talk volumes. Silence is the loudest music there is. If you listen carefully, you can hear each and every secret of the universe, every story that has ever been told from the beginning of time, every promise made to one another whispered swiftly into your ear. This silence was being the witness to the promise we made to each other. Kayla is a sweet, fun-loving girl. She has a huge crush on her friend. Aaron returns to school after two years. Her heart gets broken only to be put together again. She gave up on love only to find it again in one person she least expected from. She will find love where she least expects it from. "Now that you're mine, that boundary shit goes away for me. If you have a problem, it's my problem. Someone's treatin' you like shit, then they can answer to me. I'm not waiting around and watching you get walked on because I feel like it isn't my place, it is my place now," he finished, and I couldn't help the sad smile that formed on my face. "You don't have to do that though...you don't need to put that kind of burden on your shoulders," I mumbled, the idea of someone taking care of me like that one that I still wasn't accustomed to. He reached forward to grab my chin, the same way he always seemed to when he was telling me something important. I felt my breath hitch as he bent down to look me square in the eyes. "Punishing someone who decides they want to fuck with you isn't an obligation. I can promise you, I'll enjoy every second of it," he assured, though the sentiment wasn't exactly reassuring. ***** Sammy had wanted to leave behind her small town in Kentucky for a place where nobody would know her or her tragic past. But moving to Montana a few years ago has offered her nothing near the calm life with a clean plate that she had desired. Instead, a new group of friends whom she loves as if they were family. But also, Tyson Crawford. The boy she fell for sophomore year of college...now the dangerous man she can't get away from. As the dark secrets of her life become harder and harder to hide from her friends, dark secrets of their own begin to emerge. And now that Greyson Shawnel is coming back to town - a man she's only ever heard of in her friends' stories - Sammy's entire world is catching on fire. Because Greyson can see through the cracks of her lies, and he doesn't intend to let it go on any longer. Even if there's a larger danger looming on the horizon, one that threatens them all...

**Story Blurb:** Serena's world fell apart when she lost her dad, and since then, everything in her life has been a blur of chaos and confusion. She's lost herself in the process, unsure of who she is or where she belongs. Enter Jake-charming, carefree, and allergic to commitment. He's made it clear he wants no part of a relationship, preferring to keep things casual and avoid getting too close. But despite their differences, Serena and Jake find an unlikely connection, forming a strange but undeniable friendship. As they navigate their own personal struggles, they begin to challenge each other's boundaries and unravel the patterns they've built around themselves. In a world that seems to have forgotten how to make sense, they just might be the spark each other needs to start healing.
