"Why does he always sit alone?" Henry spoke quietly looking at the old man sitting by the rushing water. His ageing was becoming clear, as wrinkles covered his pale face, and the stubs and bits of hair he had left was gray. His clothes looked like they belonged to a time before Henry was even born, and he couldn't begin to understand how this man has been able to stay on his own for so long.

"Maybe he likes being alone?" Charlotte's voice sounded beside him. They had been coworkers for a while now, and their relationship had evolved into becoming best friends. Neither had ever seen Mr. Denver socialize with anyone, however he had never voiced his loneliness.

"Or perhaps he prefers the memories of the past to the experience of making new?"

His sister Kelis finds someone in need of a roommate so he moves in with the girl and gives her his middle name, Lucas. He quickly becomes addicted to the girl and once he gets one taste he's done for. He warns her about his past, about his name, but she ignores all the red flags, not realizing exactly how intertwined she is with the people from his past. He becomes enamored with her, feels like she was made for him while still battling the demons of his past and soon it all becomes too much for him to handle. He makes a heartbreaking decision, thinking it's what's best for both of them and everything changes.
