What if Steve contracted dumbass disease a lot earlier than he did say- when Bucky fell off the train he jumped after him to try and get him back...he succeeds in covering Bucky and taking the brunt of the fall but

Buckys head suddenly screams at the pain of their broken bond. The first thing Hydra did to him was chemically sever his mating bond. He knew the process was horrific for him, but he couldn't even begin to imagine what his omega went through due to it. Steve runs a hand through buckys long hair trying to calm his as quickly as possible. Steve knew they had about an hour before his rut fully kicked in and they had to be in the safe house by then otherwise the alpha would tear the place apart.
