Set in 1492, Italy, Jones Selibini finally decides to pursue his dream of becoming a writer. He arrives in Florence, the focal point of the Renaissance Era, in hopes of being recognized by Europe. From there he meets people from different backgrounds, all unique in their own ways. However, a threat arises as the city becomes a battlefield of European supremacy. Worst of all, the Florentini government abandons its people, leaving them to suffer amidst the corruptions of the church. Bearing it no longer, Selibini takes a stand against its atrocities. Together with Rafaelo Bartollo, a young and inventive scholar, and Allegro Caladri, a frail but strong-spirited artist, the three of them work together to expose the corruptions and hidden truth inside this marvelous yet sinister city.

Scarlatta Francomagaro is seen as a disgrace by her parents, who have decided she must endure a terrible fate to hide her shameful deeds from society and atone for her sins. Fleeing her parents' violence, Scarlatta takes refuge on the outskirts of the city, hiding in an old, crumbling shed belonging to an elderly couple. Within those four moldy walls, she will live for several years, imagining a better world-a world where there is no pain, and where people with kind hearts are the ones who triumph in the end.
