The young shadowhunter Aleksa Monteverde, called Leksi, finds herself in the academy in Idris after her parabatai Annabeth Kingsmill was killed by a demon. She gets to know the kind Blake Pangborn with whom she gets along pretty well and they immediately become friends. But next to Blake there is a mysterious boy named Elijah Blackthorn who seems to hate everything and everybody. Stuck between a friend and a love interest, Aleksa is confronted with even greater problems. The Council brings the charge against her, that she wasn't present, when Annabeth Kingsmill died. They blame Aleksa for her death. While Aleksa tries everything to get over the loss of her parabatai and to get back to the institute in Montreal, she has to struggle with the Council and them wanting her to visit the City of Bones until the hearing. But her new won friends help her and Aleksa soon finds out the real reason she was held out of the investigations considering Annabeth's death and sent to Idris. The story takes place in an imagined academy, mentioned in the TMI books by Cassie. Since I love academies I had to write about a story happening here. But the story also sets in various places over the world and reunites some familiar places from the TMI books with new impressions.
