Andy Hurley seems to have his life well sorted out. Despite being divorced, he has managed to raise his three-year-old daughter, Clara, by himself and is one of Chicago's most well respected and decorated detectives. Becca Hale just moved to Chicago to start a new life after she is forced to abandon her old life to protect herself. 
Through a mutual friend who set them both up, these two end up falling for each other. But months later, one secret that Becca has kept to her and only her shows up in Chicago. Becca is forced to face one of her worst fears, losing Andy and the life she had worked so hard to rebuild.
