Leo Valdez was sought to be annoying, happy, a jokey guy and dumb.
Leo Valdez was known by himself to be depressed, masked and smart.
The blacksmith god told his son, Leo, that it was his gift that cam along with fire. He was a fast thinker and very smart. When Leo asked why his other siblings didn't have it, he responded with "It comes along with the fire. You cannot take it away."
So, casually, Leo hid it.
He pretended to be dumb and oblivious when he actually knew the answers. Like when Percy and Annabeth were about to fall into Ta--That place, he knew if they could somehow get Annabeth to grab the ledge or make a human latter they could've saved them. But he worried. He didn't want them to know about his 'Smart side'. It just didn't feel right.
But when Annabeth says something wrong, Leo tries to fight the urge to blurt out the actual answer, but it was useless.
