The year is 30XX. Elena Schuter, Corporate X's master assassin, died at the hands of Lane Caster.

Ah, I shouldn't have done that. Should have gone straight for his neck, so... why did I hesitate?

The jagged stone behind digs deep into my flesh. The debris of the fallen building creates a thin, misty fog around me. It's getting harder to breathe.
My eyelids start to droop, while the footsteps are getting closer. Then silent.

"You deserve to die, Elena," Lane Caster says.

I feel something sharp against my neck. The cold blade of the sword clears away the haziness in my brain. The sword's slight movement cuts into my throat as my blood trickles out.

"Rest well, Elena Schuter," Lane swings his sword upward in a swift motion.

I don't like the sadness lurking behind those deep sapphire eyes. Even now, when it's looking at me waiting for my death.

Thus it is a silent night.

Lane takes out a small red handkerchief with Phoenix embroidery from his pocket. With careful movement, he wipes away the blood on his black sword before kneeling in front of Elena's corpse. Blood drips down from the corner of his mouth.

"Elena, you are my downfall. My harbinger of death," Lane whispers.
