Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo, otherwise known as Deku and Kacchan when they were children, were together until Izuku turned 4, when he found out that he was quirkless.

"Hiya, Izuku! You came from the doctor yesterday, right? What's your quirk?" A boy with spiky blonde hair and red eyes eagerly asked him, excited to know if they will be a good match for being a hero duo in the future.

"I don't have one." Izuku muttered under his breath while looking down, fumbling with his shirt with tears in his eyes.

"What? I can't hear you. Can you repeat that?" A naive Kacchan spoke.

"I s-said that I d-don't have a q-quirk," Izuku uttered miserably, tears flowing down his cheeks, "I'm q-quirkless, K-Kacchan..."

"You are a Deku!" Kacchan said the next day.

"What does that mean, Kacchan?" Izuku was clueless. Why was Kacchan calling him that?

"You can read your name as Deku, which means 'useless.'" Kacchan laughed, not caring how much he had hurt his childhood friend's feelings.

"You can be a hero, child. Come with me, and I'll help you with the skills you have," the mouse-dog-bear principal patted the boy's head, "in here."

"I'll go with you. Mama, please help me prepare my things." Nezu had just said that the boy will need to live with him permanently, with the only chance of seeing each other through visits on weekends and holidays.
