There were many things that you could hear being whispered throughout the corridors of Hogwarts from 1971 to 1979. Many of the whispers would be the discussion of the most recent prank that the Marauders had pulled, perhaps even a gushing of the luscious locks of Sirius Black. A debate of the origin of Remus Lupin's scars that scattered across his face, the most recent attempt of James Potter asking out Lily Evans, or perhaps even about the war that had clearly been brewing. But something that could also be heard, the bright light in the middle of darkness or the sun on a cloudy day, was the happenings of Cali Higgs. The young girl that had been sorted into Hufflepuff under nobody's surprise was the same person that you could hear arguing with Minerva McGonagall if you walked by their classroom, the same girl who would be caught feeding the owls in the owlery, the one that had befriended Hagrid because he always seemed to be taking care of an animal, and the girl that stood up for her beliefs even if it was against a Slytherin that was twice her size. Her name was Calista Higgs and she was the kind Hufflepuff that many would later claim was the only reason they had a smile on their face during their darkest days.

It was 28 June, 1979. The sky was bleak, just like the mood of Wizarding Britain. People were dying every second, innocent children were being dragged from their homes solely for their heritage, and so much blood was spilt that there was more blood than water in the soil. An 18 year old boy stood at the entrance of a cave, his hair swept back and drenched by the gusts of rain and wind. He was shivering because of the cold as the torrents threatened to knock him over, yet his feet remained planted on the ground. He was determined. He could do it. If his single act of bravery could help defeat He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, then he would die trying to do what was needed. STARTED: 13 March, 2022 FINISHED: 20 May, 2025 - My work is under copyright.
