Life was always so simple for Harold. Follow philosophy and do what brings you toward happiness. But as the king of Dorthore, Harold must put the good of the kingdom before his own happiness. Doing this puts both him and Erart Avington in a situation they have never dreamed to be in. They must find their happiness in this dark situation lest they lead miserable lives.

This is an alternate universe (AU) Resplendent fanfiction. The alternate universe is explained in the first chapter. The first chapter may be slow, but I'm hoping the rest of the story picks up to everyone's liking!

There are some trigger warnings and mentions of suicide, so please read with caution, especially in the early chapters.
