Mature
First they put us under martial law. Nobody remembers the explanation they gave. A curfew was set. The local law enforcement disbanded. Fences encircled our small city. Money became irrelevant. The price to live was food. The whole economy changed within three months. The rich became the poor. People such as farmers and stockpilers became the wealthy. And just like that we were caged animals. America. Taken over by our own government. No communication from in or out of your section. We were cut off. When they invaded our home for the arms collection we couldn't band together to go against them. We were secluded and alone. Then they issued the mandatory vaccine. This time they didn't even bother making up an excuse, what else could we do. How would we fight back? So we were herded into our lines. Injected we went about our day. Suddenly people were sick. Puking blood. Bleeding from their nose, mouth, ears, any opening they had.
The ones who showed signs disappeared never to be heard from again. Parents ripped from their families. Kids taken. If you tried to hide you just had your door broken down and they were stolen instead. It didn't matter. Age. Gender. Race. Things that seemed so important became non-existent. There were two types of people. The ones who were gone and the ones robbed. River parents were part of the taken. Both of them. Left in a deteriorating world she has to create her own perception of right and wrong. To the people of the town, she is their very own robin hood. To the government she is a problem that needs to be fixed. Her set ways and concept of good and evil is rattled when the leader of the stealth force, Polar, captures her. Shaking both of their concrete beliefs to the core. Who is really their enemy and who can they trust.
