The year is 1724 and Redmond Bradford has fled Alcingeria upon discovering that his bond with the demon Minerva has halted his aging. He seeks a new future in Rao Mansa, part of which is now an Alcingerian settlement, where he starts a new life. After receiving a summons from Packo of the Grand Chasm, a shady lizardman with a talented shaman in his corner, Minerva is whisked away from him.
With the help of a priest with waning faith, Redmond must journey to the Astral Plain and through the realms of divinity to get her back.
Meanwhile on the mortal plane, the events of the last few decades have culminated into a period of destabilization that sees the clashing of two great trading companies in the Southwest Archipelago, a group that could oppose the Vulrock crown, an assassination, a double cross, and someone who is not quite what they seem to be.
