It should have worked. Many people have pondered over this statement throughout the history of humanity, questioning what happened when something went wrong. What had taken place did not occur to just any person, and it would be rude and unfair to exclude the accomplice who also played a part in how they got here. What went wrong was the experiment that failed when they turned the reactor on again. They woke up no longer in their lab on Earth and no sign of civilization anywhere.
