"What are you thinking about Renee?" His voice holds curiosity as well as concern.
"Why do you think I'm thinking about anything?" I ask quietly.
"You're not as cryptic as you think. I know you're thinking about something," he turns on his side to face me; I continue to stare at the lazy clouds. "You always are. What are you thinking about, Rain?"
"I'm feeling a bit nostalgic," I say carelessly.
"That doesn't answer my question, Rain."
"Not every question needs an answer, Cole." I whisper, shutting my one eye.
This isn't a love story. This isn't a romanticized version of some depressed teenage girl's life, either. This is my story. This is the story of how my life ended and started two months before I turned 14. The story of how my mom died, my sister lost the ability to walk, and I became a one-eyed menace. I'm not your typical girl, and I don't have a typical life. I'm not even known by my own name.

"Dad!" I yell as I walk into the house. I'm greeted by nothing, except silence. My dad is rarely home, I don't know what I am expecting. Ever since my mom died, he's been nothing but distant with me. I mean, he was always distant, even before mom passed, but before, I thought that he just didn't care about me, now... I know he doesn't. ********** "Hello?" I say through the phone, grabbing a cloth, running it through the faucet, and pressing it against my knee. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" I hear a chorus of people yelling through the crackly phone. I start to laugh. ******** My mom had died. My dad is an alcoholic that doesn't care about me. I have three best friends. One new friend (Who's a bartender/stripper/lesbian). A great job as a DJ at this amazing club. So I have this thing. Some people would call it a catastrophe; some would call it heart breaking. It also has the name of disease, and heart killer. I call it just cancer. Simple enough as it is, right? Doesn't help that I already had it once before, it just came back to fight harder as ever. I thought it was over. Isn't it though? Don't you give up at that point? Senior year and I'm ready to end my life as a person all together. I'm tired of fighting and might as well give up because there are no chances of me living all together. So as a smart choice I move so when I die no one will know me or care about me. Wouldn't that be the logical choice? I don't want pity. Never liked, never will. So don't tell anyone I have cancer. Miracle Deveraux Kind, forgiving, caring, smart and overall an amazing person. One of the nicest people anyone could get the pleasure of knowing. But she struggled to believe any of this, with each day that past. She thought she was: Annoying, incompetent, worthless, an attention seeker. Replaceable.
