It's time to renew the treaty between Araluen and Skandia. But news from the north has Ranger Commandant Gilan and Queen Cassandra on edge about what might happen at the upcoming meeting.

Deciding to be safe rather than sorry, they enlist the help of retired Ranger Halt and Redmont Fief's very own Ranger Will, the man who had played such a crucial role in creating the treaty to begin with that his last name derives from the document. On their journey, they add an unexpected member to their group before sailing to Skandia.

But once they arrive, things don't go exactly as planned. Can the treaty be renewed? And, if it can, what will it cost?
