"Answer me goddamit!" He sounded pained and enraged but I too was not going to fall for his shit. Ignoring the sparks I still felt shooting where my arm connected with his hand I backed into the wall.
"Why the fuck do you care Chase? Huh? What is it to you if I live or die? Why can't you let me be?" I screamed this at him in a rush of fury, not realising how the gap between us had minimised to zero and how our angry bodies were almost touching, our faces inches apart.
"I don't know why I fucking care Yrene, but I do!" He sounded so pained and broken, as if every word was an effort, "So let me care for you! Let me help you get through whatever it is you're facing! You're not fucking alone in this, look around you for once! There are people who care for you! I care for you!" My heart begins to pound uncontrollably in my chest after hearing this but I don't let it show, "But you're just too stubborn to let anyone help you!" He too screams this at me in pure, hot, frustration and I hang my head low with shame. He was right but he had no right to be right.

"How many romance books do you read?" Devin asks me. I shrug. "I like them," I say. I keep browsing, running my fingers along the spines. "So, you like romance then?" he asks me. I nod.
