Annalise of Dracoya is known for more than just being the upcoming queen--her incapability of following directions and desire to know the unknown mark her as a girl her parents struggle to detain. Every year the kingdom hosts a series of Solstice Balls in an attempt to protect it from the Faeries who enter Earth on these special occasions, though the only thing the Princess wants is to encounter the otherworld her subjects are so frightened by. Sure enough her wish is granted, and on the Summer Solstice she breaks away to encounter a Faerie she remembers meeting as a child. He comes to collect the favor he was promised by her several years ago, the repercussion if she refuses the wintery death he rescued her from. But things are not always as they seem, and though Annalise is responsible for his life, she endangers her own by being so.
As he whisks her away to his world to fetch a trinket he swears will indeed save him, she begins the adventure of a lifetime. The Faerie realm is everything she's ever wanted, though there are hidden secrets and dangers she has yet to know. Her crown demands that she return home once she is released from her promise, but her heart cries out for a life in the Faerie realm she comes to love.
Will she choose the duty of her crown and the Prince awaiting her at home, or the feelings of her heart and the Faerie that is in every way, her perfect match?
