Piri Brides

In the faraway island of Piri, the ultimate goal is to marry a foreigner-and the locals sure know how to work hard for such a goal. Girls are groomed early on to be as beautiful and desirable as they can be, starting from the young age of nine. Belinda, a thirteen-year old girl is caught in such a web, in which her teacher and fellow islander, Maricar, is determined to untangle her from. Together these two young women face the reality of making a sacrifice for both family and self, choose paths no one has tried before, and prove that poverty need not be solved by marriage to someone moneyed and influential but by sheer determination to succeed.
