She was under the guidance by Monk Gyatso. At the age of 11, she became one of the youngest and first ever female airbending master in history. Along the way, she meets and befriends Aang. She moved from home at 14 years old to live at the Southern Temple, and train the avatar himself. Life was great, she loved her student and enjoyed watching him grow. But after a certain threat, Aang ran away, and Nara followed him not knowing how history would play out for her and the young avatar. When she wakes up after 100 years, she's absolutely devastated by the loss of her family, and this new world of war to navigate. She meets two Water Tribe siblings, who join her and Aang's journey to master the elements and end whatever the Fire Nation started.
