Police and Rascal AU

Paul is a 33-year-old officer, a widow (deceased wife, died when Paul was 27 years old) living alone in a small town with mostly elderly residents, w not a lot of action going on. Then one day, a new chief inspector moves into town with his family, his 22 (the art accidentally says 21 but he's 22 :") ) year old son and wife (wife and dad dont have a lot of relevancy in this au but they're there :") ) and Paul is excited to meet his new boss, who seems like a nice man, except that he's very protective of his family. Which wouldn't be a problem in and of itself, if it wasn't for the chiefs ratass rascal son, John, who out of boredom and spite towards the lonely small town, begins to commit small crimes like stealing vinyls and guitar strings, to pass time. And in the beginning, Paul doesn't think much of it, until he realizes that no one else realizes its happening, and John's father isn't doing anything about it. Even worse, Paul knows that if he addresses John's father, he won't believe him and will probably just end up firing him for "speaking ill of his angel son", so Paul decides to silently take matters into his own hands. Which is exactly what John wants, because it was officer McCartney's attention he was striving to get in the first place!
