Emily Weston has disappeared from the real world and is stranded in a place called the Borderlands, another world where time does not exist and you cannot age or die. Although Emily is not alone, there is a small, dysfunctional community of mostly young and unique people like herself, except they come from the past, from different era’s in time and as it turns out two of them George Leighton and Luke Edensor are the “history boys” who she first met as a child. Emily has dreamed about this world her whole life and feels an irresistible connection to it; she is also drawn to the handsome but tortured First World War soldier Luke Edensor, the boy from her dreams who Emily is starting to fall in love with… However Emily does not want to forget her home and is also desperate to return to her life in Pennbrooke, worried about her vulnerable mum.
And there might be a way home though only if Emily truly desires it and is strong enough to make the attempt. Although something is not quite right in the Borderlands, for in this seemingly, peaceful and idyllic world, someone has been watching Emily for a long time, a hidden danger growing in the shadows and a fate that has been awaiting Emily Weston from the moment she arrived in this world.
