Nuclear attacks destroyed the earth and killed everyone on it except for the small fraction of people who joined together and boarded 13 different space stations. Two years after the destruction of the world, the 13 stations decide to become one but the 13th station was blown up by the alpha station to set an example. The 12 stations formed the Ark which was designed to sustain human life for years to come.

There are rules on the Ark, ones that mustn't be broken if you want to live. Any criminal over 18 is sent to their deaths in the depths of space but any criminal under the age of 18 is locked away till they have come of age to be sent to their deaths as well.

Ruth Cortez was 3 years old when her mother gave birth to her younger brother, Atticus. One of the rules on the Ark was that each family could only have one child and if they had any more, they would be sentenced to death. Ruth's job was to protect her brother and keep him hidden.

6 years later, the secret is spilled and her parents are sentenced to death and Atticus and Ruth are locked away to await their 18th birthdays where they would be killed just like their parents.

9 years passed since the two are locked away, oxygen is running low on the Ark, around 4 months left of breathable air. The chancellor fears that the human population will die out. In his panic, the chancellor decides to send 100 of the prisoners to a place that hasn't been touched in almost 100 years. Earth.

5 weeks before Ruth's 18th birthday, the Chancellor puts his plan into action and sends the 100 criminals to earth. Ruth knows how to fight better than anyone in the group but will that help her survive? What happens when Ruth and Bellamy Blake cross paths? Will sparks fly? Will Atticus and Ruth survive living on earth? Could Ruth finally find love?
