Ares is the Devil incarnate. He shows no emotion other than amusement. Unless you call evil an emotion. No one knows why he's been sentenced to Hell, but they know he enjoys running it. The king bows down to no Demon, not even his new roommate who he quickly becomes infatuated with.
River and Ares are two completely different delinquents, confined to the same Hell.
