Das Reich Jachha wird mehrmals im Jahr von schweren Fluten heimgesucht. Die Menschen hier leben an hochgelegenen Orten oder auf riesigen Flößen, die bei Bedarf auf den Wellen reiten können.

Lu Ingram wurde von ihrem Mann betrogen.  Hals über Kopf verlässt die den Komfort der Großstadt und siedelt nach Duck Rock über, einem schäbigen Felsen irgendwo in der Wüste.

Mae  Vanlyn hat eine bewegte Vergangenheit, die sie nach Duck Rock gebracht hat. Tag für Tag ertränkt sie ihren Kummer in Alkohol.

Derikk Ophredo ist ein aufstrebender Pilot, der die Akademie in Hethery besucht. An einem Tag sitzt er noch im Unterrichtsraum, am nächsten wird er nach Duck Rock verschifft. 

Die Wege dieser drei Personen kreuzen sich auf unerwartete Weise. 
Ob sie es wollen oder nicht, das Schicksal von Jachha liegt in ihren Händen und nur gemeinsam können sie das Land vor dem Untergang bewahren.
