In the midst of a civil war, Veoversella is overcome with a terrible plague. Frevus and his soon-to-be husband Michael live in the heart of the country, in the booming city of Mesomotha. The two get a taste of how fast a city as big as their own can cripple to its knees, and plan a route of escaping the contagion. Meanwhile, the polyamorous trio of Eroe, Charlie, and Sam find that there has been a disturbance in Irve as of late, causing strange things to happen in their isolating forest. The three magic users each decide to scry for an answer, when they stumble upon a lead on the odd plague. But as it turns out, it is not what everyone thought.

General Sevei is of the firm opinion that Nobles are shady and Alchemists even shadier. Noble Alchemists are the absolute worst. He is not looking forward to partnering with one to guard the border.
