Elpis is the Ancient Greek Daimon of Hope. According to Hesiod, when Pandora opened the jar given to her at Zeus's bidding, all kinds of horrors flew out - diseases, disasters and afflictions that affected mankind, but at the bottom of the jar, was Elpis, who remained with mankind to give us the strength and courage to cope with all the ills of the world.
