Is it moral to kill a criminal? In the gritty city of Vita, Cade Soldaire becomes one of the first in his society to ask such a simple question. He is nominated assassin, in charge of leading a criminal-fighting organization called the Ninth and one of the only in the city to have the authority to kill criminals. With the Ninth and his father breathing down his back, it's hard for Cade to speak up and decide things for himself. That is, until he's being questioned in the interrogation room after the killing ceremony has gone wrong. Now, with a $100k wanted poster above his head, Cade must learn to stand up against his father, and to learn what it really means to be human.

"The way he stiffens stirs something in me. Guilt maybe? I still might not be aware of what I've done, but I do know I don't regret doing it. So how is this man making me feel guilty with just a glance? The past is the past, but right now he's the enemy." After the devastating Carpa Malum killed 70% of the population, the world was left in disarray. Elders gone and children dead, and their remaining families left in the hands of a tyrannical government run by blood lust. A handful of the survivors, however, were found out to possess powers others could only dream to have. Castelle has little left to live for, wiling away her days in the slums of Trinity Central, but after being discovered, death isn't an option. She's taken in to fight for the government she's always loathed while a quiet rebellion starts to simmer in the streets. Thinking she knows what side she belongs to, her opinions of both are keen to change. Battling morals, friends, love, and herself, watch as Castelle fails to remember the word "justice".
