Lucid dreams allow Joliette (Jolie)Dunsmore a glimpse into her previous life. They started shortly after a near-fatal accident and have only grown more vivid with every swallow of her anti-psychotic medication. Her therapist has diagnosed her with a personality disorder. She is treating Jolie with the intent to suppress all thoughts and dreams relating to her so-called past life.
