PSS: The beginning Prologue took place after Welcome to Smash Bros, and the ending took place after season 1 and before season 2.

Ash and all his friends cannot stop Marx on their own, so they call back Kirby and Galacta Knight AND a whole gang of new characters, and maybe some enemies will come back to being allies against the extraterrestrial threat known as Marx.
