There is a new government, a new society, a new procedure.
Every citizen must now get an operation on their eighteenth birthday. It disables their creativity, dulls their moods. The government has decided freedoms are dangerous. Everything must be in order and must follow a schedule. However with every society there are those who disagree. Since the new rulers don't believe in freedom the rebels must hide in secrecy.
They are called Runners. They don't have the surgery and attack the government every chance they get. They believe the new system is extremely flawed and that the government officials have more sinister plans than just taking away art.
Talia is the average teenager in this new type of society, except she has a secret. She loves art. Art is her escape and she wished she never had to have the surgery. She believes it will change her forever, remove any love she ever had for the things that made her happy.
Talia needs to decide if she is going to help the Runners or if she stays with what she has known, what the government thinks is best.
