Gwyneth had always felt connected to her faith, a higher power presiding over her. That faith had shaken that devastating day those years ago, the day that went on to haunt her every nightmare for years to come. She's still trying to come back from it, to not only restore her faith in life and love, but her faith in herself. The sanctity of her spirit- she prayed for resolve. Every punch was a prayer. Every mile was a hymn. Until her knuckles bled and her knees gave. Azriel had been surrounded by darkness his whole life, a poison on his world, on his being. He exercised restraint in his every waking moment, banishing that darkness within himself. Some guessed of the strain it put on him, but no one knew the extent of it, how deep his scars ran. It was better this way, he was sure. He had always thought that if there were a higher power- which he wholly doubted- such deities must loathe him to have burdened him such darkness. He hadn't much faith in the gods anyway, much less faith that he could sway their opinion on him. But Gwyneth and Azriel did have one thing in common: the quiet fight within themselves. They only knew one way: to go about it alone, couldn't fathom letting another in. But there's a magic in finding someone who is your equal but opposite, something transforming. And frankly, Gwyneth and Azriel could both use a little magic. All characters owned by SJM in the ACOTAR series. Story takes place after the events of ACOSF. Aligns with the events in my other fic: A Storm of Flames and Deceit. I haven't finished Crescent City, so this story takes place outside of the events of those books as well. When Eira was seven, she was involved in a car crash that left her mother dead and her with no memories of the incident. Therefore, it's impossible for her to realize that she has been chosen to succeed her mother as the last 'Ice Elemental', one of six guardians with the power to control specific elements that keeps everything from teetering into chaos. Nine years later, now a student in high school in Snowspell Wisconsin, her dad has secretly trained her to blend in and be 'invisible' amongst her peers. That becomes much more difficult for her when she unwittingly begins to develop special abilities in front of everyone in her high school cafeteria, including Alexander, a mysterious new student with a strange tattoo on his ear, a hidden ability to teleport, and a keen interest in the necklace given to her by her mom right before she died. Eira learns that she is being protected from anyone or anything that may do her harm and it's not long before an evil entity with an army of dark souls, (including her mother's) knows exactly who and where she is. With the dark entity's army, the "Achlys" unrelenting in their search and closing in, Eira and Alexander escape into seclusion. Confused, unprepared and hunted by an army of darkness that would just as soon as kill her as capture her, Eira must quickly mature and develop into the Elemental power she was destined to become or she and those she loves may face the same fate that her mother did years ago.

'They pulled the chair across from me out and sat in it. The tavern carried on when the figure made themselves comfortable. My grip tightened on the hilt of the dagger. They pulled the hood of their cloak off and unclasped it. Their movements were relaxed and unhurried. I ran my eyes over him. He had strange black, swirling tattoos on his neck and long, pointed ears. His clothes were plain. I crossed my arms and sat back in my seat, keeping my eyes on his piercing midnight blue ones. He cocked an eyebrow. "Well?" I narrowed my eyes. "Well, what?" "What's your business here?" "I should be asking you that, considering you silenced a room by being in it." "Fair enough." He paused as the bartender brought another tankard over. "I'm looking for a travel companion." His voice was as deep as the shadows surrounding us. "You're an elf... Don't they prefer to travel on their own?" "Fae," he corrected as he pulled a pipe out of thin air. A black wisp of smoke surrounded his hand as he did so. "But yes, we do. I, however, have had enough of my thoughts being my only company." I nodded. "So?" He raised his eyebrows. I shook my head sadly. "This is something I need to do. Alone." "Alright." He looked a bit disappointed, which was odd, considering we had just met. ' What happens when you're going to kill the Unnamed One and meet a mysterious fae on your journey? Do you trust him, or leave him? And what do you do when you find out what he's been hiding? Iowyn Aedithas is on a quest to save her guild. A quest that could potentially be lethal for her. She's an awfully brave (some would say naive) human to be doing this. Demons have been attacking her guild, and she's had enough. She meets Evaris, the mysterious fae, on her journey and he becomes her travel companion. When they reach their destination, he reveals information that's previously been held close.
