For Annabeth Chase, awakening after decades of being frozen in ice involves more than catching up on pop culture; it also means that this old school idealist must face a world of subtler threats and difficult moral complexities. That becomes clear when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague killed by the mysterious assassin, the Ocean Soldier, but not before warning Annabeth that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been compromised by its enemies. Annabeth is thrown into a web of intrigue that places the whole world at risk. Now a fugitive, Captain America must get to the bottom of this deadly mystery and joins forces with the Black Widow and a new ally, the Falcon. However, the battle will be costly for the Sentinel of Liberty, with Annabeth finding enemies where she least expects them while learning that the Ocean Soldier looks disturbingly familiar.
