Humanity is the epitome of perfection, everyone in line and in sync. Those who aren't are punished, and those who exceed the standards rise above. And then there are the ones who don't fit into either of those categories- the Atavists. VL2141 wants nothing but to fit in, to become the high-achieving individual society expects him to be, but it seems as if his own disposition is against himself. RN2142, with her thousand points at just age 17, who has earned the remarkable title of assistant to the Secretary of Research, is the perfect paradigm of success. To everyone but her, it seems that she has it all. XN0013 dreams of nothing more in life than what she is ordered. It never occurs to her that what she does is wrong or worth stopping. Only switching causes for self preservation, she stalks through life just as empty as the rest of humanity. Three government pawns, all set on different goals, all bound to turn into something they never considered possible.
