The story follows a reserved young boy named Yuki Aoi and his spirited childhood friend, Hiro Ryugasaki, both students attending Tensei Academy.
Through an unexpected incident, Yuki's friend obtains a mysterious smartphone after they come across it in an old box. The strange device had installed on it already "Shadowverse", the virtual card game popular throughout the world. Eventually, Yuki and Hiro soon get entangled in the famous card sport as they meet various characters and rivals, all with their unique personalities.
Meanwhile, amid this discovery, Yuki soon starts to see his happy-go-lucky best friend in a new light as long-suppressed feelings begin to bloom within his heart.
