After witnessing something terrible happen to her best friend, Harper changes her name to Echo. She swears she will never compose her own sentence ever again. She can only "echo" others'. One day she finds a new boy leaning against her locker. Looking for directions to class, Nick inquires of her. Carefully, she shows him the way, but resolves that he can't find out about her past.
