Although she never found out he sexually abused me, she was aware that I was terrified of the man. Some time later my mom meets John and they fall in love. John was an amazing step father. He was there whenever I needed him same as his son, Jessee, who was just a year older than me. That was all I needed to hear, and I was thrilled. Without making noise, I danced around my room and repeatedly thanked him. Later that night, after the usual abuse, I silently packed my things when she was passed out.
