The world didn't end in December 2012, as many people believed, but for Marvin the following year was a year of struggling to keep his family's crumbling world together...

Because of that red mark on Marvin's report card, he ended up yelling at his mother.
He is depressed. He wants to avert his attention to something else and spend the night somewhere else.

In spite of the foreboding thoughts due to its appearance, Marvin entered the newly opened internet cafe. At the moment that he entered the portals of that cafe, reality, and imagination seemed to scramble.

Is it only inside his head? Does he only need to sleep and rest his overworked mind?

Or is it just as real as the heartaches that provoked him to find that place?

Or that place finding him?

The Labyrinth Keys by matthewp118
23 parts Ongoing
In the sprawling waste zones of Ashfield, a city choked by the refuse of a broken society, Jack Vesper sorts through discarded junk with no real future in sight. At 25, he's just another misfit, another person tossed aside by the world, now working a grueling job as a garbage sorter. The days are monotonous, but when he stumbles upon a strange, black metal sphere buried deep in the trash, everything changes. Curious, Jack presses a hidden button on the sphere, releasing a small black chip into his hand. It feels heavy with mystery and potential, too precise to be just another piece of discarded tech. With no one else around on a slow Saturday shift, Vesper pockets the chip and continues his work, unaware that this seemingly insignificant object is about to pull him into a new, dangerous world. Jack's curiosity gets the better of him, and he travels to a long-forgotten lab on the outskirts of the city. The lab, once a hub for cutting-edge research, is now abandoned, its halls lined with old maps, blueprints, and cryptic notes. As he begins to study the charts, he discovers a book of labyrinths spanning the globe-labyrinths not just made of stone, but of technology and power, their existence hidden from the world. Some of these labyrinths hold secrets of unimaginable value; others, unfathomable dangers. The chip seems to be a key-a gateway into these labyrinths. As Jack begins to piece together the labyrinth's secrets, he realizes that it could lead him to a power unlike anything the world has ever known. But with that power comes the threat of those who would stop at nothing to control it. The line between friend and foe blurs, and Vesper must navigate not only the physical maze but the twisted web of secrets and lies surrounding him. The adventure begins with one small chip-and the future depends on what Jack discovers within the labyrinth's depths.

❖2021 Watty Awards Shortlist❖ Kevin was just a normal 10 year old kid until he saw a woman vanish right before his eyes. This made Kevin just a little bit different. He paid more attention to people now. Little did he know that this little difference would kill him the next time he encountered another alien about to return home. It would tear him apart, cell by cell, until he was unmade. His mind being transported away. --- So distantly far away there is a race that advanced to the point where they built dyson spheres to house their civilizations. In their continual expansion, they seeded galaxies with pods and connection satellites. Over time they upgraded their dyson spheres into matryoshka brain Cores. Imagine a computer powered by a star. Citizens of Cores no longer age once they upload their minds into the virtual living system of the Core. While they didn't age, most still choose to cycle through life and death though at a different scale of time compared to our lives. Citizens can visit other planets and live there as if they were on a "vacation". Mercury is Earth's hub connected to the closest Core and Earth is a remote vacation spot for wealthy citizens. When the main character was 10 he witnessed a citizen returning to the Core. The story continues 10 odd years later when he again witnesses a similar situation unfolding and manages to touch the person returning to the Core. This causes him to be swept up in the transfer as well and for his mind to join as a "Guest" user of the Core. As a Guest he has limited powers, a starting balance of zero cr or Citizen credits, and no idea how he can get home. He is the first human to ever become a Guest of a Core. Where money itself is the highest form of their science.

| Description | Vic, a young man in his early 20s, suddenly finds himself waking up in the crazy fucked up world of Borderlands in a body not his own. He's initially troubled with the situation he awoke to like any normal person would be. However, he doesn't remain in that state for long because of the many opportunities this new chance at life could bring him. The young man could've stayed miserable about the whole scenario he's been placed in, but he decides to make the best of things and embrace the opportunity he was given out of the blue. So armed with a plethora of knowledge about the dangerous world he awoke in, thanks to the many thousands of hours he's poured into the Borderlands series and a system reminiscent of those from the games, he sets out from the bandit tent ready to stake his claim on the world and live life to its fullest. | Additional Information | I don't really care for any of the games beyond the pre-sequel, so anything written story wise after it will be ignored and probably not used. This also includes the telltale games and the upcoming Borderlands 4 game that looks like a carbon copy of 3. This work is only available on Webnovel, Royal Road, Scribble Hub, Wattpad, FanFiction.net, and Fenrir Realm. The Torment

10 parts Complete Mature

December twentieth is the day I remember being brought into the asylum for the first time. Like any typical psychopath, I screamed. I cried. I remember snatching the nurse's hair until she screamed and I was slapped into unconsciousness and thrown into the room. The only difference? I wasn't a psychopath. For the first few days, I would cry maniacally upon hearing any nurse go by, to catch one's attention and tell her that I wasn't insane. "That's exactly what an insane person would say" They said, unbothered and it was as if my fate rested in the mouldy walls of the Asylum. And I soon realized that there was no use fighting for my life now .Which brings me to the present day, another one that I'll mark in history with red. The day I met him.
