denial: after first losing a loved one, you may feel shocked or numb. almost as if the death is not a real occurrence. this is a temporary way to deal with the rush of overwhelming emotion. its a defense mechanism.
but in eden's case, the first stage of grief didn't seem to be temporary.
and there is only one way to help him move on.
