❝ 𝐴 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑡𝑒 𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑒, 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑠 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑡 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒. ❞ Anna read out loud, while I was staring at the flower that Lord Tewksbury gave me. ❁ I always was sort of different. It wasn't my looks, my health or my social status. It was my mind. I am sick of men telling us, women, what to do. I am sick of my mother telling me to find myself a rich husband. I am sick of my Father being a member of the house of lords but I still won't be the person following him, even though I am the oldest. And why is that? Because I am a woman and that is the only reason. But I decided to defend myself. I decided to make a difference. My plan was to make women join protests against the sexism going on. To inspire them to defend themselves and I was going to achieve my goal even if it meant that I would have to leave behind everything. I only made one rule for myself to follow: don't fall in love. But when I met the Viscount Tewksbury of Basilweather, I quickly knew that I had to focus so I wouldn't break that rule. #5 in SherlockHolmes (16th January 2023) #6 in enolaholmes (4th February 2023) #3 in runningaway (4th February 2023) #5 in emmawatson (28th May 2023) #2 in Tewksbury (10th July 2023) #1 in womensrights (6th June 2024-29th July 24) #1 in Sherlockholmes (17th August 2023) #2 in runningaway (26th November 2023) (All the characters except my own belong to the owners of Enola Holmes) About 30.000 words have been used in this book

In 1800s England, a well-meaning but selfish young woman will do anything to avoid matrimony to the county's finest suitors and to justly prove she doesn't need a husband to find her way in society. Even under the peril of her uncle losing his property and business to debt. In all but two months, she must prove to her family she's more than capable without a husband and can, in fact, exceed society's expectations of the female sex. But what woman can write what she hardly knows of the world, and its secrets? And most of all, how far is she willing to prove herself toward society and the Lord? At what cost for love? Maxmillian Knightley has returned from university in London, now facing the looming title of marquis. With that title comes responsibility to interact with those he despises most, and with which he must fight for his inheritance. But how far will he go in order to grow favor in the scrutiny of society and his stiff-neck father? He may be everything a woman of the ton looks for in a husband - titled, wealthy, and cheek bones that can draw in any woman - but he is in no mood to humor eligible women by participating in all things reformed. The question is: how far will he go to do everything against his own sensibility and judgment? For inheritance ... or for loyalty and love? The only common enlightenment between two entirely different sexes? A fondness for penmanship and our humorous Lord who writes the very novelty of life itself. And what happens if proving oneself leads to something quite worse? When it comes to love, making the right choices, these two are their own worst enemies. Selected Works of Eliza Haywood

13 parts Complete

Eliza Fowler Haywood (1693?-1759) was one of the most popular and prolific writers of the early 18th Century. After a none-too-successful career as an actress, and having acquired a husband (she said) and two children, and lost the former, she hit her stride in 1719 with Love in Excess; Or, The Fatal Enquiry. Over the next forty years she produced a stream of novels and other works which were the equivalent of today's Mills & Boon or Harlequin romances. Immensely popular, they were read mostly by women, but sneered at by the male arbiters of literary merit. Since the 1980s, however, they have enjoyed something of a revival, a few of them being published by small academic or feminist publishers. Regardless of that, they are great fun to read, and recommended to those who like their books a century or three old. This selection contains the following • Idalia, or the Unfortunate Mistress • Love in Excess; Or, The Fatal Enquiry • A Wife to be Let (A play, in which she acted herself)
