Before the two great wars, the Citatus, those who were summoned by the gods to serve them in specific ways, were the wealth of the nations. Centuries ensued where the Citatus were sought after as advisors for the kings and nobles. Many preferred to work in their god's or goddess' temples as priests and priestesses, others worked with the average person to help them live their lives in honor of the god's and goddess'. This ended on the stroke of midnight in the temples of Newat where the priests, priestesses, and apprentices were found slaughtered. War raged between the temples and the nations. The god's and goddess' receded from that of human eyes. The Citatus and their vast libraries and works were killed and destroyed during the two great wars. Skye has, from birth, been summoned by the gods, one of the few Citatus left in existence. Many people, even her parents, believed that the gods haven forsaken them years ago, continued to do so to current time as the dead had risen and destroyed villages, towns, and cities. Skye knows that, though the lack of obvious activity of the gods, they are still watching over mortals and helping them. But Skye does not know that the dead's course is a straight path to her village. She awakes to the dead attacking her village. After surviving an unimaginable night she finds only one other survivor: Nathaniel. Together they tackle the daunting quest of the stopping the risen dead from destroying the world they thought was nothing but stories of the past.
