Enter a World of Chaos and discover the untold tales from the LIGHT OF CHAOS series by Alexandra Gardner. Join Sam and friends for short stories of everyday life before their worlds came crashing together in KING'S CHAOS, Book 1 in the LIGHT OF CHAOS series. Learn more about their connections to each other and explore the universe by seeing it through the lens of different characters.

Meet the Characters:

Sam enjoys shenanigans and archery. When she's not being hunted by guild mages, she can be found in the graveyard, talking to her mother's tombstone. Her powers include time travel, spacial shifts, and the ability to see ghosts and auras. She is considered to be a legendary sassmaster.

Phoenix is Sam's babysitter, or guardian, depending on the day. Dead for over two millennia, this ghost could use some anger management or a vacation. He'd be happy with either. When he's not playing lookout for Sam, he's hiding in the ether.

Evander has a gentle heart, caring spirit, and lethal fighting skills. He enjoys solitude and basking in his element. When he's not being ordered around by Phantom, he can be found hiding in his late mother's attic, studying spells and rituals. He is an air elemental with the temper of a raging storm.

Jeph likes spilling blood and spending time with his best friend. When he's not holed up in the Archives reading, don't bother looking for him-he's hiding within his shadows, stalking his latest victim. He obeys the monsters, whether in the guild or in his head. His morbid sense of humor stems from his necromancy, dark magic, and his past.

Owen is the last magician of his bloodline. When he's not center-stage for his latest production, he can be found immersed in nature practicing magic. Wielder of all five of the elements and trained in the art of the sword and shield, he's ready to take on his destiny to protect the person he cherishes above all else. He just hasn't found them yet.

Home, safety, and a place to belong - they seem so easy to find, at least for everyone but Amelia Blackwell and her sisters, who run from accusations of witchcraft at every turn. It started so simply, with a book. No one might have predicted that a book apparently filled with pictures of newts might lead to so much trouble, but The Book of Newts is no ordinary volume detailing the taxonomy of amphibians. The magic book reveals its true nature only to Amelia, at the age of ten, teaching her advanced mathematics, science and engineering - subjects she would not otherwise have been exposed to. Ironically, she and her sisters are accused of witchcraft for having built a horseless carriage, because to the ignorant villagers, there's no difference between magic and science. They settle in a new land, only to find the same breed of persecution. In an unusual ray of hope, they're told of a distant kingdom that openly accepts witches, but shortly after they settle there, the light at the end of the tunnel turns out to be an awful house fire surrounding their gilded cage: they're drafted into the local military, because their new nation uses witches as living weapons. The sisters accept the idea that peace will never be found on the ground. Looking to the stars, Amelia builds a space vessel powered by magic and steam, to carry them to a brighter future, hopefully without the strife that's always followed them. Unfortunately, the people of the stars have their own worries: an ancient, undead pirate queen, who consumes the souls of powerful witches to extend her own life. The Dead Queen takes Amelia's sisters and leaves the magically-weak engineer to die, all as a sick form of sport. Will Amelia survive long enough to overcome this greatest of all threats and rescue her sisters, or will they become fuel to feed the waning magic of a woman that should have been dead centuries before? Content Warning: This novel includes some violent and traumatic scenes.

Sora has no place in the world. She is meant to be a strong warrior, with the ability to shift into a wolf. She is none of those things, and looked down upon because of it. It brings shame to her, it brings shame to her family, and worst of all, it brings shame upon her prideful and strong brother. There is but one person who truly knows and loves her, but does he really? Magic is not the weapon of a warrior, magic is the weapon of a coward. Sora has been told that all her life, but she has magic within her, recently awakened, and so she has begun to doubt it. Still, witchcraft is punishable by death, and so Sora must be careful with her practices, lest she lose all she has. Sora is a better witch than wolf, though not by much, but she still pursues that craft in spite of the dangers. Her place in the world is a dangerous one, but will it last? The world she lives in is a dangerous one, and such a life as hers rarely ends happily. Disclaimer: this is a short prequel, Sora's story does not conclude with this one. If you finish this book and go "oh, that's the end?" it's because it's not the end. I'm writing a trilogy called Mortance that explores the larger world that this takes place in and concludes Sora's story more thoroughly than in this book. Go read that next if you like my writing, thanks. Please leave any and all criticisms you might have, anything you like and anything you dislike, I want to make this as good as I can. P.S. the cover is literally just a drawing I made in physics class, I know it's bad, I'm not an artist.

A Mexican Palo Mayombe priest who'd very much prefer to live a quiet life between his magical studies and his parish. A Russian engineer who has lost most of his memories and would just like to spend his days in his cellar, where nobody knows what happens. A bureaucrat at heart, forced to he the Enforcer, and thus the tactical chief - or as he likes to define himself: glorified babysitter - of the aforementioned three subjects. A powerful Order of Mages, working behind the scenes of the world... in the most bureaucratic and organized way. What happens when a simple mission, who would lift the Coven of the Pollos Rojos de la Revolucion at least up the rank where they'd have the right to a home with, at least, one room each and two bathrooms, goes south in a totally unpredictable way? Follow the adventures of Banshee, Chico, Vopros, and Garaham, as in Strange Aeons, unnamed supernatural forces, and very named ones, find themselves at the beginning of a plan eons in the making, that will change everything. In a world where your eye color can determine your status, where monsters roam the earth, how can a team of two siblings, a "child", a priest, a few orphans and the devil really hope to survive? *** Aurora is a thirteen year old student mage who was placed into a boarding school at five years old. It was found out that her brother was magicless, and she's bullied for that. This, paired with his absence, has led her to feeling attached to her brother, and when she is notified of his distant arrival, she is ecstatic, despite being notified during a dire situation. Her life doesn't exactly get better from there, as she is whisked into a world of constantly oncoming danger. Her brother tries to defend her, but can she really be safe with his poor judge of character? Especially in the case of a certain omen of bad luck. Arthur, an eighteen year old adventurer and the brother of Aurora, does indeed have poor judge of character, but he's always been around terrible people. Despite this, he does find the good in others and always tries to show that to his sister. Unfortunately he is always proved wrong by his favored companions, who later reveal the worst of themselves to him. On top of that, he's always seen as less than, and he seems to have accepted that, but at least he understands that the only universal constant is that his sister loves him and he loves his sister. The title character is left ambiguous for a majority of the introduction. It's like he was plopped into the world at the last minute, even though he develops major plot points like the second magic system and the demon hunting. Those aren't even major spoilers, that's just surface level stuff. He's the aforementioned omen of bad luck that follows the siblings, and others that are soon to follow. Though, he seems to be the only competent one, as he saves the siblings time and time again. They almost seem useless to him, yet he stands by them anyway. One begins to wonder... is Ha'des really a demon?

The family is torn to sides, trying to decide if they must release the beast, or simply add more layers of security to his prison mansion, to save him from his own conspiracies. Dive deeper into the Osirian Empire, and the warped existence of the hero that went from the chosen savior, to that one weirdo at family reunions everyone pretends they don't know.
