After an Alpha has given up looking for their mate, and they need a Luna to help run the pack, they will organise an event known as The Whipping. 

Female volunteers from packs around the country will put themselves forward if they wish to be in the chance of becoming a Luna.

These she-wolves would be whipped in front of all the packs, again and again until their backs were red raw and blood covered. The last female remaining would be given the title of Luna as the Alpha would only want the strongest wolf to help run his pack. 

Most wolves gave up and quit as they couldn't take the pain, but some head-strong females would go until they were no longer breathing. 

It was an ugly tradition, from years ago. I had never heard of one happening in this day and age...until that day...

almost a hundred years ago, the beasts in the shadows, known as werewolves, made themselves known, their attack was so unexpected, no one even knew they existed till the night sky was blazing a deep orange with the fires from destruction across the world as they completely ravaged different areas of powers. Humans were no match to counter them so suddenly, countless lives were lost on both sides, mostly on the humans. Mort, is the Alpha for the Red Crimson pack and I am his Beta, Taragon. He has recently found a mate and because of an accident that happened years ago after I found mine that caused her death, my punishment was that I would never have another mate. I accepted it as punishment for not protecting her at the time and caused her death. One day, the Alpha meets his mate and she happens to be a runt in one of the worst families of our kind. He isn't too happy with her and she's so fragile looking. Although, he feels that for her, she can still be useful around the house. Some times I hate how mean but right she can be. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's a lot of pressure and work to be the first female alpha of you're pack, that's right you heard alpha and pack. Name's kacey and I'm a werewolf. Now back to the point, it's even worse when you pick a female to be your beta. If I would have picked a male my pack could have switched the roles I would have to be beta and he would have to be the alpha. I wouldn't even become the luna, because we believe strongly in mates. The only time I would get out of the alpha position is when I find my mate, then I would become luna, which I'm perfectly fine with. Well I thought i would, but i didn't know being luna ment getting... Sorry, my mind goes a hundred different places.
