The following chapter was written as a tie-in with the Going Home (The Survivalist) series of books by Angery American. I submitted it for approval to begin a novel and, alas, it was not chosen. So, here it is, a single chapter. Below is the synopsis.
"When an EMP strikes the US, a college professor from the east coast living in Wyoming finds he is terribly unprepared for a life without power. He must deal with death and mayhem from a myriad of bad actors including his own 'beloved' federal government."

The Last City
It has been 14 years since the zombie apocalypse started and the world descended into chaos. There are few cities that people still live in. Many of these cities have zombies roaming the outer edges and are close to falling and becoming abandoned like the rest.
