Bree Simmons is a twin.

Her mother had a choice when she and her brother were born. Her choice was to either get floated and let both of her kids flourish freely on the Ark or to give one child up to save another.  She selfishly chose the latter.

When Bree was eight she realized her mother wasn't gonna come back for her. That she was gonna be stuck in a cage for the rest of her life. When Bree was ten she learned what was gonna happen when she turned eighteen. That she would get floated for being born.

 When Bree turned thirteen she started her first fist fight which had earned her two weeks in solitary confinement. She was fourteen by the time she had her second fight. That was when she learned what she was. Nothing but a freak with black blood. She was fifteen during her third and final fight in the Sky Box. This bought her a permanent residency in solitary confinement. 

Just days before her eighteenth birthday, She finds herself on a drop-ship to Earth.
