In an attempt to put her past behind her, Maria Hirsch decides to join the Survey Corps, led by none other than Commander Erwin Smith. Despite having a hard time adapting to the harsh environment within the Scout Regiment, Maria pushes herself to become a worthy soldier. Gaining the respect of Humanity's Strongest Soldier, Levi Ackerman, she earns herself a position as Lieutenant within his squad. 

Maria is compelled to confront the choices she made five years prior when someone out of her past suddenly appears back into her life. After getting seriously injured during the 57th expedition and being forced to retire, Levi will do anything to keep her in his squad. Maria learns there might be more to her friend than she initially thought; triggering new and unexpected feelings.
