After the great War Hero, Sephiroth ignited Nibelheim in flames and its people were slaughtered, Zack, Cloud, and a rogue Turk, Leana, fought bravely against the evil Sephiroth. When Sephiroth died and the three friends, severely wounded, passed out by the stairs of the Shinra Base upon Mt. Nibel, the head scientist of the Shinra Government, Dr. Hojo, didn't miss the chance to use them as new lab rats and experiment on them. 

Four years later, Zack and Cloud escaped. Zack gave in to his injuries when Shinra soldiers hunted them down, but Cloud has the chance to start a new life.
