There's a 0.1 percent of a person being born without a soul, but will only have a lifespan of two minutes to a year. There's also a 0.001 percent of a person being born without a soul, but he/she will live the normal life a normal human could.

Essence... spirit... that which gives meaning to life. It isn't the soul which is necessary for life.
