Mitch- Charity- knows something is wrong. At 18 she is of the age to be betrothed and since a young age she has been told again and again it is her duty to be a good wife and godly mother to the children she is supposed to bear. But she doesn't want to be a wife and she doesn't want to be a mother. She doesn't have the words for it yet, but she knows she isn't a girl.
His saviour comes sooner than he expected as he cries in the field, his name having been read out that day at church. One of the 6 eligible boys around his age has been given permission to court and eventually propose to him and five other girls also chosen, but he isn't ready for it. It was against the rule to talk to boys, yet Jerome comforts him- and then suggests something crazy.
A way to get out. A way to be free, live their lives the way they want to. But to do that, both have to cope with knowing that if they left, they would never talk to their families again. But first, they need to contact the outside world, and to do that, they need to be married.

This book is based on partially on I am not Esther, a book about a girl in a religious cult, and partially on a real life religious cult. Gloriavale is a Christian fundamentalist group near Greymouth, existing separate from our modern world. I highly suggest searching Gloriavale on YouTube and reading the book for some more detail about this world.

**ORIGINAL VERSION, NO LONGER ACTIVE BUT COMPLETED** *spoilers if you are reading current version* Jake Mitchell wanted nothing more than to be the nameless guy you pass on the way to your afternoon chemistry lecture every Friday. Familiar, but unknown at the same time. Just enough recognition to remember, but knowing so little that you make up stories for him in your head. That's the only reason he took the offer from Everett University to be a left-wing forward on their Division 1 hockey team. A forgotten team really. Dead last in their league and close to dead last in the division. It was just something to help pay the tuition, but nothing much to get any recognition. He gets to keep playing hockey, he can afford to go to an out-of-state school, and he can remain unknown. It's his perfect game plan. Or well it was. Until the worst possible series of events happens. The team wins their first game in 13 years, shocked fans catch Jake talking to a popular pro player after a game, and an unfortunate tweet blows up. All leading to Jake's face being plastered on every Twitter feed, Instagram story, and social media outlet that you can think of. His worst nightmare comes to life in real time. Now with the help of his team, he has to figure out how to deal with his newfound fame while trying to get his bachelor's in chemical engineering and win as many damn hockey games as he possibly can before time runs out and he has to run again. Except, maybe this time he won't have to.

Each ended up here in a very different way, but now they're all heading down the same path. Jerome never even realised that she was pregnant- he saw her for one night, drunk while at a party, and 9 months later he was served with papers, demanding he take custody. Mitch was raped. He thought his testosterone shots would prevent anything from happening but whether by fate or not, the pregnancy continued. He never wanted this, but he had no choice in the matter. Vikk didn't expect to end up as a father, especially not a father of twins, but his partner didn't want both of them. She took one child, leaving Vikk with the other, while he desperately searched for the child she took. Neither Lachlan or his girlfriend wanted to be parents, and it interfered with both of their jobs. Her job was more important to her than her relationship or child and she left him with said child, unable to cope. For Rob it wasn't planned, but he was ready to take each day as it came and support his girlfriend through parenthood. But when the baby is born and suffers extensive brain damage his girlfriend leaves him, leaving him behind with a disabled child. Preston was in a committed relationship, married, ready to begin a family, but complications left him alone with his little boy. But as their paths collide, things change. Who will be left on the other side?
